7 Beauty Lessons We Learned From Audrey Hepburn

Audrey Hepburn was one of the biggest style and beauty icons. She rocked a pixie cut, mastered the art of dramatic eyeliner, and wore a pair of statement sunglasses like nobody's business. Plain and simple, the woman was an exceptional and unique beauty. These are the seven best beauty lessons we learned from the actress.

1. Paying meticulous attention to your makeup will always be worth the work. Hepburn's eyebrows were always perfectly plucked and shaped, her eyeliner was always straight and symmetrical, and her lipstick was never smudged. This attention to detail might be a pain, but as Hepburn proved, the hard work will definitely pay off.

2. Your bangs don't always have to be straight. Did you happen to butcher your bangs during a money-saving DIY haircutting experiment? Take a hint from Hepburn and rock the hell out of your asymmetrical bangs. If you believe that they look cool, other people will, too. (Posing with an Oscar will gain you more cool points.)

3. A red lipstick is always your best defense. Hepburn knew the right way to wear a red lip: You keep the rest of your makeup subdued and pull your hair our of your face so the focus is on your striking bold lipstick. (This is also a great trick if you want to draw attention away from a blemish.)

4. Bring a comb with you to the beach. Hepburn has the simplest solution to that scraggly hair you get after taking a dip in the ocean: a comb. Run one through your hair after you get out of the water to get the sexy, slicked-back look Hepburn's sporting in this picture.

5. It is possible to wear casual sunglasses with a formal gown. OK, maybe Hepburn's Breakfast at Tiffany's character Holly Golightly pulls this off best. But there's no shame in imitating her look.

6. Always wear a hat when you're cleaning your pool outside. Hepburn knew that wearing a hat when you're outside is essential for protecting your skin from the sun's harmful rays. (We'll assume she also had on sunscreen.)

7. Minimalist makeup works best as you age. Hepburn eventually decided to forgo wearing heavy makeup. Here, at age 59, she kept her makeup simple, wearing a berry-colored lipstick and light-brown eyeliner. Talk about aging gracefully.
