For William Bell Scott, seeing the early paintings of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood “was the beginning of a new interest of life.” Scott was fascinated by the work of Dante Gabriel Rossetti (1828-1882), William Holman Hunt (1827-1910) and John Everett Millais (1829-1896). When Scott saw Millais’ Christ in the House of His Parents (1850), the “picture was to me like a revelation.”
