Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will get married at St George’s Chapel, in Windsor Castle this May.

They say the wedding will be a "moment of fun and joy" in a celebration for family, friends and the public.

The couple are leading the planning process, but the royal family will pay for the church service, music, flowers and decorations.

In a statement, they said: "They want the day to be shaped so as to allow members of the public to feel part of the celebrations too and are currently working through ideas for how this might be achieved."

A YouGov poll for The Times today found 39% of British people were pleased by Harry and Meghan’s engagement, 4% disappointed, and 52% indifferent.

The same poll said 49% have a positive view of Meghan, 14% negative, and 37% ‘don’t know’, it has been reported.

Hotels 'cashing in' on May's royal wedding

Hotels are ‘cashing in’ on the Royal wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle by appearing to treble the cost of a single room during May- when the big day is planned to take place.

A specific date for the Royal wedding has not been announced yet, but the Palace confirmed the ceremony will be in May.

Prince Harry and the America actress will marry in St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle.

Hotels in Windsor, Berkshire, ‘jumped at the chance to capitalise on the potential flood of visitors’ from across the world who will descend on the Royal town, it is claimed.

Holiday Inn, Windsor, which is a 13-minute walk from the castle is charging £82 over April Sunday to Mondays stays for a single room.

But during May the chain is charging £259 for a standard single, a double room, a double room with a sofa bed and a two single-bed room - which only has three vacancies left.

A spokeswoman for Holiday Inn Express said: “Like the airline industry, hotel prices and room rates vary due to supply and demand.

“Factors such as hotel brand, location, size of the room, availability and whether it’s being sold as part of a package will determine the room rate.”

Harry: "Whatever we have to tackle we’ll always be us together as a team"

As Harry and Meghan’s relationship blossomed, the prince said he had to have honest conversations about how her life would change.

Harry said he had to have “some pretty frank conversations” with Meghan about how her life may change when she entered the royal family.

He added: “But I know that at the end of the day she chooses me, and I choose her, and therefore whatever we have to tackle together or individually we’ll always be us together as a team, so I think she’s capable... she’s capable of anything.”

Ms Markle will have to brush up on her knowledge if she takes a UK Citizenship Test

The royal bride-to-be intends to become a UK citizen ahead of the ceremony at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle in May.

Though she will retain her US citizenship, Miss Markle ‘will be compliant will all immigration laws’ in the UK.

For the average person that would mean applying to take the Life in the UK test and then waiting up to four weeks to receive a confirmation letter.

But when quizzed on ‘Britishisms’ last year by TV Channel Dave, she only managed to get a measly four out of 15 questions about Britain right.

The quiz started with her having to guess which answer is a genuine ale. She nailed it with three out of five correct, but most of the remaining questions left her well and truly baffled.

Meghan was asked which four places were real locations in the UK - she chose the only one that isn’t a real place.

She also didn’t know the UK word for ‘sidewalk’ and said Vegemite was more popular than Marmite.

Following the test, she admitted defeat, saying: “I think I lost. I think I was the worst at this game.”

Meghan Markle's mum flanked by security after engagement news

Meghan Markle’s mum appears to have a brand new security detail now that her daughter is joining the royal family.

Glamorous Doria, a yoga instructor, was wearing a black long-sleeved dress and a head scarf for her day out, during which she was flanked by a burly security guard dressed in jeans and a checked shirt.

Security was seen outside the 61-year-old’s Los Angeles home while US actress Meghan, who quit legal drama Suits after her engagement was announced, gave an interview alongside her new fiance.

Body language expert predicts Harry and Meghan "are on the fast-track for kids"

A body language expert has predicted Harry and Meghan may have a baby ‘sooner than expected’.

In their first interview after their engagement was announced, they were asked by BBC presenter Mishal Husain whether they had thought about having children.

“Not currently, no,” Harry said. “No, of course, you know I think one step at a time.

“Hopefully we will start a family in the near future.”

But renowned body language expert Traci Brown believes that after the wedding the couple will immediately start trying for a baby.

Speaking to the Daily Star, she said: “They are 100% on the fast-track for kids.

“Their comments match their body language – there’s no hesitation and they’re on the same page.

“Start the clock now.”

World Vision charity pays tribute to "true humanitarian" Meghan Markle

The charity World Vision has paid tribute to Prince Harry’s bride-to-be Meghan Markle, saying the “true humanitarian” will bring “vast energy” to her royal work.

The former Suits star is giving up her current charitable commitments with the organisation to focus on her new life as a member of the royal family with a “clean slate”.

World Vision’s Lara Dewar, who travelled to India with Ms Markle earlier this year, thanked the actress for her support and praised her passion for improving children’s lives and campaigning for girls’ rights.

“Meghan is a true humanitarian,” the chief marketing and development officer said.

“We’re deeply grateful for her contribution as a global ambassador for World Vision over the past two years and for helping to raise awareness for the world’s most vulnerable children.

“I personally witnessed Meghan’s passion to improve the lives of children, and know her heart to advocate for the rights of girls - to hear and amplify their important voices.

“She will undoubtedly bring vast energy to her charity work as a member of the royal family.

“We can’t wait to see what the future holds for her and Prince Harry - a couple who clearly have a heart for social justice.”

Meghan jokes love for Burger King during college years helped her 'put on pounds'

The Sunday Mirror uncovered an article from her college news magazine in which Meghan joked she put on a stone after bingeing on Burger King in her Freshman year.

Interviewed by the magazine in 2014, after returning to the Northwestern campus for a Q&A session alongside fellow cast members of TV show Suits, she said: “It’s surreal because I haven’t been back since I graduated.

“And as I’m walking around I remember things like the schlep of getting to South Campus from up north.

“The 24-hour Burger King also definitely helped me put on the Freshman Fifteen.”

Meghan was a 'typical party-loving student just like Harry'

Meghan graduated from the Northwestern University School of Communications in 2003 with a double major in theatre and international relations.

While the 36-year-old may seem like the ideal princess-in-waiting, we can reveal she had a ‘wild youth’ just like 32-year-old Harry.

Meghan’s days at Northwestern University in Chicago in the early 2000s have rarely been spoken about.

But a visit to her old stomping ground by the Sunday Mirror has revealed she was a typical party-loving student who allegedly used fake ID to go clubbing.

One of her favourite haunts is said to have been a bar that has since been shut down following a battle with authorities over underage drinking.

Meghan’s half brother Thomas Markle Jr has reportedly said he hopes to receive an invite to the wedding despite an accusation he threatened his own girlfriend with a gun.

The 51-year-old allegedly waved a handgun at Darlene Blount, 36, in an argument, The Times reports.

Reports say he was arrested in January but the charges were dropped the next month and the couple got engaged.

He apparently apologised and said: “Everyone makes mistakes.”

“If I may say so, Prince Harry has made a few and learnt from them,” he told the Sun.

“I still want to go to the wedding if they will let me.”

Why Meghan's wedding dress is likely to be a different style to Kate Middleton's

Meghan has previously given an idea of what her ideal wedding gown would be like.

In an interview before she was revealed to be Prince Harry’s girlfriend, she described her dream dress as something ‘classic and simple’.

She added that the dress worn by her Suits character Rachel wasn’t quite her style and said she’d like something more ‘relaxed’, the Daily Mail reports.

With this in mind, her wedding dress is likely to be quite a different style to Kate Middleton’s Alexander McQueen frock she wore to tie the knot with William in 2011.

Bets have been flooding in on who will be the lucky designer of Meghan’s dress, and it’s Erdem that’s leading the way at just 2/1.

The odds, as provided by Ladbrokes, are below:

  • Erdem - 2/1
  • Jenny Packham - 4/1
  • Giles Deacon - 5/1
  • Suzanne Neville - 11/2
  • Elie Saab - 6/1
  • Oscar de Le Renta - 7/1
  • Vera Wang - 8/1
  • Amanda Wakely - 10/1
  • Alice Temperley - 10/1
  • Marchesa - 10/1

Why Meghan's US citizenship could cause Britain a tax headache

Buckingham Palace announced yesterday that Meghan Markle will become a British citizen after her wedding next year.

Although some foreign politicians are required to give up their dual citizenship, there are no similar rules for British royals.

In fact, there’s already been speculation that Harry and Meghan’s children could even have American passports.

The couple today released details of their wedding, which will take place in May(REX/Shutterstock)

But there’s a one big problem, according to the Washington Post - American tax laws.

“US citizens are subject to US tax obligations regardless of their country of residence,” Peter Spiro, a Temple University law professor and the author of “At Home in Two Countries: The Past and Future of Dual Citizenship” told the WaPo.

“A member of the royal family would be treated just like anyone else.”

By contrast, if Harry were to move to the US to live with Meghan, he would not be expected to file taxes in the UK.

The life Meghan is leaving behind to marry Harry

Meghan insists that she doesn’t see her union with Prince Harry as “giving anything up”.

“I just see it as a change,” she continued - but others might disagree.

The actress, who will wed the Queen’s grandson at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle in May, was referring to her role as Rachel Zane on legal drama Suits.

On Tuesday, the show finally confirmed she had departed the series.

In addition to her acting job, Meghan has also had to leave behind one of her beloved dogs, Bogart, who is believed to be too old to fly to the UK.

Why will Meghan be baptised and confirmed before her big day?

Yesterday it was revealed that Meghan will be both baptised and confirmed ahead of her Church of England wedding.

The bride-to-be is Christian, a member of the Protestant faith who went to a Catholic high school.

Her mother Doria Ragland is Protestant while her father Thomas Markle is Episcopalian.

A person wishing to marry in a church is not required to be christened or confirmed but will usually have a link to that church in some way.

In the case of St George’s Chapel, this is where Harry was christened.

The decision for Meghan, 36, to be baptised and confirmed before the wedding will be seen as a nod to the Queen’s strong faith and traditions within the monarchy.

Both baptism and confirmation are important parts of the “journey of faith”, according to the church’s website.

While many people brought up in the faith are baptised as children, adults can undergo the religious ceremony too.

“You are never too old to take this step, and being baptised as an adult is a wonderful experience,” the church’s website states.

During the ceremony water is usually either poured on the person’s head at the font or they may be fully immersed in a special pool within the church.

The service of confirmation can only take place if a person has been baptised, and is about confirming the promises about their faith that were made at the baptism.

Meghan could be baptised and confirmed in the same ceremony.

Theresa May refuses to confirm if Brits will get Bank Holiday to celebrate nuptials

Theresa May as she exits Downing Street yesterday(AFP)

Theresa May still refused to confirm whether Brits will get an extra Bank Holiday to celebrate Harry and Meghan’s nuptials tonight.

She was questioned as she travelled on the RAF Voyager aircraft while making her way to the Middle East for a whistlestop tour.

When pressed on whether Britons will receive a day off work to cheer the country up, she said: “You talk about cheering people up, I think seeing two young people in love, and actually that was obvious from - I didn’t see all of the BBC interview, I saw some snatches of it - and I think that was obvious.

When Kate Middleton and Prince Williiam tied the knot in the stunning Westminster Abbey in London on Friday April 29 2011, the British public was given a bonus bank holiday.

Princess Anne’s wedding gave the British public a Bank Holiday in 1973.

Prince Harry and American actress Meghan Markle have given a lot of thought about what it means to be a young modern royal couple, the Prime Minister has said.

Theresa May said: “I think what was obvious was that they have given a lot of thought of what it means to be a modern royal couple in today’s age.

“I wish them great happiness for the future. And I think the country is delighted to see this engagement and collectively we wish them all the very best.”

Why Queen Victoria wouldn't approve of Harry and Meghan's wedding date

Portrait of Queen Victoria at her home in Osborne, Isle of Wight in 1897(Getty)

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have chosen the month of May for their wedding, but one royal ancestor would not have approved.

Harry’s great-great-great-great grandmother Queen Victoria refused to allow her children to marry in May because she considered it unlucky.

The superstitious rhyme “Marry in May, and rue the day” may have put Victorian brides off, with 19th century priests often dealing with a rush of people who wanted to marry on April 30 to avoid it.

Successful royals weddings in May include the Queen’s eldest grandson Peter Phillips and his Canadian bride Autumn Kelly who wed in Harry and Ms Markle’s chosen venue, St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle on May 17 2008.

The couple, who have two daughters, celebrate their 10 year anniversary next May.

But the Queen’s sister Princess Margaret married Antony Armstrong Jones, later the Earl of Snowdon, on May 6 1960 and that marriage ended in divorce.

May has two bank holidays, Monday May 7 and Monday May 28 this year. Schools also break for half term over the second bank holiday, known as the Spring Bank Holiday. Princess Charlotte of Cambridge’s third birthday is on May 2, which makes this date unlikely. The first week of May might also be unsuitable for the Duchess of Cambridge if she goes overdue with the birth of her third child, plus local government elections are taking place on May 3. It could be that the royal wedding takes place in late May to give Kate the chance to recover after the arrival of the new prince or princess. Royal weddings traditionally take place on a weekday. Queen Victoria herself married in February on a rainy day with high winds.

Inside the royal love nest at Kensington Palace where Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will live

(PA)

Tucked away in the grounds of Kensington Palace, this is the royal love nest where Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will live.

The newly-engaged couple will set up home in the prince’s current apartment, Nottingham Cottage, a two-bedroom property on the 17th century estate.

While it is the smallest abode on the estate, it boasts reception rooms designed by Sir Christopher Wren and a small garden, where Harry slung up a hammock when he first moved into the property.

Meghan, 36, is no stranger to the cosy cottage and has visited Harry, 33, a number of occasions since the pair started dating.

And it’s likely she will want to put her own stamp on the place, like the Duchess of Cambridge did when she first moved in.

Meghan Markle may have to take a second stab at the UK Citizenship Test before she marries Prince Harry - but could you answer the questions?

It has been revealed this afternoon that the royal bride-to-be intends to become a UK citizen ahead of the ceremony at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle in May.

Perhaps some applications can be expedited too.
