TOKYO -- Here we go: Every videogame ever commercially released for the SuperGrafx system.

Because I apparently have more money than sense, I bought a SuperGrafx -- NEC's failed followup to the TurboGrafx-16, only released in Japan -- and two of the games for the console yesterday in Akihabara. But then I found out that there were only five games ever released for the system, and this made me want to have the complete collection.

So I went back to Aki this morning and finished off the pile. Also in there, in the middle of the top row, is Darius Plus, a PC Engine game that runs with enhanced graphics when played on the more powerful system. Note the "PC-SG" logo in the lower left hand corner of the box.

Note also that the game on the bottom right,* Madoking Granzort*, is actually brand new. Since I want to do a video feature on the
SuperGrafx, that will necessitate breaking the shrinkwrap on a game that is nearly 20 years old. That's gonna require a shot of whiskey beforehand.

Now, it's true that this is not technically every single piece of SuperGrafx-compatible software. At Super Potato, where I bought the console and the new copy of Granzort, you can buy Darius Alpha, which is another PC-SG hybrid title, but it was only given out as a prize in a contest long ago, and costs over $1000. I'm only slightly crazy, not that crazy.

In case you're curious, the most expensive game by far was 1941 at about $100, although I definitely got a deal -- most other copies of the game were well over that price. The rest of the games sell for between $25 and $50 each, except for Battle Ace which is under $10 everywhere (and not fun).
