Here’s What Draco Malfoy and His Son Will Look Like in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child

We’ve seen Harry Potter and his family as they’ll appear in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child; we’ve seen Hermione, Ron, and their daughter Rose. Now we can add two more characters to the mix: Draco Malfoy and his son Scorpius.

Harry’s former rival will be played by Alex Price, whom you may have spotted already in Merlin, Doctor Who, and Penny Dreadful, where he played Proteus. Price has also starred in various theater productions, Pottermore reports, as has his co-star Anthony Boyle, who will be playing Scorpius.

The play, which premieres July 30 with preview performances kicking off June 7 at the Palace Theater in London, catches up with the Potter characters 19 years after the Battle of Hogwarts—at a time when Harry is a beleaguered father of three, working for the Ministry of Magic while his son Albus struggles to come to grips with the family legacy. It’s unclear so far what role Draco and Scorpius will play in the plot.

From the pictures, though, we can tell that the Malfoy brood has a traditional grooming pattern: once a Malfoy man reaches adulthood, he grows his hair long. Lucius Malfoy had those flowing locks in all the Harry Potter movies, and in these cast photos it seems Draco has opted to grow his out, too—but unlike his father, he keeps his hair neatly tied back in a ponytail. How do we feel about this reverse-Harry Styles move? Hot or not?

As for Scorpius, J.K. Rowling teases that Draco’s son could be a heartbreaker just like his father: “I’ve got a feeling Scorpius is going to do nothing to turn girls off the Malfoy men,” she told Pottermore.

But Scorpius will differ from young Draco in at least one big way. After everything that happened in the Harry Potter book series—particularly toward the end—Draco abandoned his family’s pure-blood obsession, becoming more tolerant. He and his wife, Astoria Greengrass, did not raise him to believe Muggles are less-than.

It will be interesting to see what the Malfoy boys will get up to in the play—particularly Scorpius, seeing as he presumably won’t be spending his entire Hogwarts career harassing a Chosen One. Perhaps he’ll be helping a Cursed Child instead?
