(CNN) – A salmonella outbreak linked to cantaloupe is now over.

The Centers for Disease Control made the announcement last Friday.

More than 400 people became sickened in 44 states. This eventually led to 158 hospitalizations and six deaths.

The tainted cantaloupe was also sold in Canada, and Canadian authorities said there have been more than 160 cases in the country that included 61 hospitalizations and seven deaths.

The Malchita and Rudy brand cantaloupes were sold at a number of retailers including Kwik Trip, Kroger, and Trader Joe’s between September and December 2023.

The Food & Drug Administration warns anyone who may have put cantaloupe products in the freezer should check if they were part of the recall.

If anyone is unsure of their cantaloupe, experts said it is best to just throw the fruit out.
