'I Woke Up a Vampire' Cast, Plot, Trailer of the Spooky Teen Series - Netflix Tudum
- Welcome to the world of a teenage vampling — where growing up means growing fangs.By Rebecca JohnsonOct. 17, 2023
Granted, turning 13 is pretty major — but to wake up literally floating in the air after being roused from a crazy dream in which you’ve sprouted fangs to the sound of your dog talking to you in complete sentences? Or… was that even a dream? Well, greetings, vamplings — and welcome to Carmie’s (Kaileen Angelic Chang) world in I Woke Up a Vampire, the series that takes coming of age by the fangs.
Created by Thomas Lynch (The Secret World of Alex Mack), all eight episodes of Season 1 arrive just in time to add a dose of kooky-spooky (in the vein of Sabrina the Teenage Witch or a preteen take on The Vampire Diaries) to your Halloween watch list. Being a superpowered teenage vampling (half human, half Mythic — otherwise known as a Blended kid) isn’t easy, especially when you’re battling mean girls, rude principals, and the creepy side that lurks below middle school life.

What happens in I Woke Up a Vampire?
Strange things start happening to Carmie the second she turns 13, but even her die-hard loyal best friend Kev (Ceci) is initially a little skeptical of her dream of being turned into a vampling and her stories of talking dogs. That is, until he witnesses her kick a giant garbage can off a curb, across the street, and all the way up into a tree. Kev’s learned enough from reading comic books to know what vamplings are — and how dangerous it can be for them. He warns Carmie that people who gain superpowers also tend to gain enemies — and she’d better watch out.
Trouble is, Carmie just wants to show off her new powers to the whole world. She goes head-to-head with mean girl Leanna (Araujo), as they try to out-sabotage each other in the school musical auditions — landing Carmie in the principal’s office. Meanwhile things keep getting weirder: On her way home, Carmie miraculously saves a new girl, Madison (Cinello), from being hit by a car, and up the street, another new kid, Dylan (Borjeau), has just moved in. Unbeknownst to Carmie, Dylan’s main hobby is hunting (and physically shrinking down) other Blended kids like her.
Barely 24 hours into her teens, Carmie’s got a fresh slate of enemies, who are suspicious of her growing fangs and her newfound habit of levitation — and she’s just about to encounter some even deeper, darker secrets about her new identity. In I Woke Up a Vampire, Carmie’s brand-new extraordinary abilities just might be able to help her — if she can only figure out the right way to use them.
