This is an excellent introduction to the lute-harpsichord (aka Laudenwerk, or Lautenwerk). It has gut or polycarbonate (nowadays) strings, which produce a much mellower and deeper tone than a harpsichord with metal strings. The beautiful sound is addictive, and it refreshes music we have loved for years. I have purchased several other Lautenwerk CDs since this one, and notice some of Bach's music (and some from other composers) seems to favor this instrument over the more familiar metal strung version. Bach himself owned two Lautenwerks and held them in high esteem. Highly recommended!
