Description
Vriesea 'Astrid' is a cultivar from the species-rich bromeliad genus Vriesea. The wild forms originate from tropical America, especially Brazil, and are mostly epiphytic rainforest bromeliads. V. 'Astrid' has green leaves that grow into a full rosette. With a height of up to 60 cm, it is not one of the tallest of its genus. With the flowering, new daughter plants are formed around the base of the mother plant. These can be separated carefully when they are about a third of the size of the mother rosette. If they are not separated, they grow together to form a beautiful large cluster.
Vriesea 'Astrid' creates the typical jungle feeling in any large terrarium. When it flowers, the plant produces a large red to pink flower spike. The Vriesea grows epiphytically as well as in a well-drained substrate. Stagnant moisture should be avoided, otherwise the base could rot.
