Attesting to the post World War II "baby boom," most of the bassinets in the Holy Family Hospital nursery were filled with newborn infants in this photograph from the late 1940s. In 1947 Holy Family Hospital, located at South 24th Street and Western Avenue in Manitowoc, Wisconsin, broke ground for an addition and remodeling which included a new pediatric unit and enlarged nursery. When the expansion was completed in 1949 the hospital's new nursery had 60 bassinets. In addition to the swaddled infants in their bassinets, this picture also shows two masked nurses or aides, one wearing a white sister's habit, standing against the back wall. Visible on the walls are a small crucifix, a clock, and a statue of Mary. At the left on a small table is a baby scale. This photograph by Glander Art Studio was published by Holy Family Memorial in "A Century of Caring: 1899-1999."
