I Love Euphorbia tirucalli ‘Sticks on Fire’

Aug 11, 2023 | Love This!

My sticks on fire Euphorbia is on a bench, in the bird/fragrance garden, along with other succulents and cacti. It’s an easy plant to have in a pot, since you seldom need to repot it. This plant that you see was last repotted 17 or 18 years ago.

The stems develop the best color in full sun and less fertile soil. I see this plant in the landscapes around LA California, where my son lives. It makes a lovely “shrub” in dry gardens mulched with rocks in those areas.

grow this Euphorbia in a container in northern climates, since it isn’t hardy outside. See the long, drooping stems on the right and let sides of this photo? I will prune those off soon, so that the plant is tighter and more upright before it comes back into the house in September.
