TV Article Deerhunter frontman's Pavement imitations must be heard! By Simon Vozick-Levinson Published on December 18, 2008 12:00PM EST Deerhunter’s Microcastle has quietly snuck up as one of my favorite indie rock albums of the year. So I was more than I little intrigued to come across the following passage in a blog post from frontman Bradford Cox: Back in the 90’s when I was first starting to make 4-track tapes I had a game where I would make a fake version of an album I was anticipating. If Pavement’s Brighten the Corners were coming out soon, I had to wait till release day to hear it. I would record a set of songs that I would want the Pavement album to sound like. Cox (pictured) was trying to make a point about online leak culture, but that revelation is just too cool to pass unremarked. Even without hearing a single note, I am confident in predicting that Bradford Cox’s “fake” Pavement album would most likely be the coolest thing ever. He mentioned later in the post that he eventually re-worked some of those early demos for releases by Deerhunter or his other project, Atlas Sound. But that’s still not quite the same thing. So c’mon, Bradford, don’t tease us like that. You’ve gotta let us hear your preemptive psychic version of Brighten the Corners. Please! Anybody want to join me in pleading for this to be released?
